CookBook Project
The Reason
When learning how to cook, it is necessary to have a recipe that gives you a clear understanding of the required ingredients and the step-by-step process. This removes the usual confusion that may arise during the cooking process, especially for a beginner. This website would allow for readily available and easily accessible recipe cards that outline the necessary ingredients and provide a simple recipe. This way, users can save time and effort while still enjoying the process of cooking.
The Process
I recently came across the website [iHeartRecipes](https://iheartrecipes.com/) while looking for their highly recommended recipe: “Easy Creamy Chicken Tortellini Soup.” While navigating the site, I noticed the excellent layout for the recipe, which made it easy to follow. However, I found it difficult to discover more recipes and pages. The heavy use of images and ads caused slow load times and occasional crashes. By simplifying the design, I aimed to remove those issues. For the main website title, I used the font **Righteous**, which gives a modern vibe reminiscent of cookbooks. For subheadings, I used **Reem Kufi Ink**, and **Roboto** for body text. During the design, I struggled with spacing and using white space effectively. In some areas, black backgrounds overpowered the content. To resolve this, I changed the text color to dark gray. Another challenge was avoiding a design that felt too similar to others. All photos were downloaded from **Freepik**, and the icons came from the Figma plugin *Font Awesome Icons*. The original recipe can be found [here](https://iheartrecipes.com/easy-creamy-chicken-tortellini-soup/) — I highly recommend it!
The Result
As someone who’s recently started taking design seriously, this project felt like a big step forward. I found joy and challenge in experimenting with fresh ideas and testing the limits of my creativity. This process gave me a deeper appreciation of form, function, aesthetics, and utility.
